Anxiety disorder

* What Causes Anxiety Disorders?

Anxiety disorders can appear in anyone at any time, however the question is why do anxiety disorders develop in the first place and what causes them? While there are no clear cut answers it is believed by medical doctors that anxiety disorders are hereditary, due to life experiences or brain chemistry as well as one's personality. An overview of each catalyst of anxiety disorders will be discussed to develop a deeper understanding.

* Anxiety Disorders and Heredity

Anxiety disorders among family members are more likely than non-family members leading doctors to believe there is a genetic trait that combined with external factors might cause an individual to develop an anxiety disorder. For example, if one twin has an anxiety disorder it is more likely the other identical twin will develop an anxiety disorder as opposed to another brother or sister.. This shows there is a genetic predisposition that some individuals have for developing anxiety disorders.

* Anxiety Disorders and Life Experiences

Poverty, abuse, and violence are potential catalysts for anxiety disorder in individuals who have dealt with these types of circumstances over a period of time. Many times individuals susceptible to anxiety disorders will develop one if they experience similar life experiences.

* Anxiety Disorders and Brain Chemistry

Many times individuals with anxiety disorders are prescribed drugs that change the chemical levels in their brains and offer them relief. Because of this doctors believe that brain chemistry might predispose individuals to anxiety disorders.

* Anxiety Disorders and Personality

While not proven, researchers believe some individuals with low self esteem might be susceptible to an anxiety disorder more so than an individual with high self esteem. Research is still being conducted to find more information.

There are no definite answers as to why some individuals develop anxiety disorders and others do not, however one thing is for sure that researchers believe the above elements play a role and more research is being conducted to be sure.
